Contacts & Notes Pro — Privacy Policy

This policy explains how the Contacts & Notes Pro iOS app ("the app") handles your data. The app is published by Pera Meta B.V. (trading as PeraByte Labs). We designed it to be private by default.
The short version
- Your voice is transcribed on your device. Audio never leaves your iPhone.
- Your notes are stored locally on your device.
- We do not track you, show ads, or sell your data.
- The only data that leaves your device is (a) note text you explicitly choose to enhance with AI, and (b) if you turn on Google sync, your contact data — to your own Google account.

2. What the App Handles, and Why
2.1 Voice & transcription (on-device)
When you record a note, the app uses Apple's on-device speech recognition to transcribe it. The audio is processed on your device and is never stored or transmitted to us or anyone else.
2.2 Notes (stored on your device)
Your notes are saved locally on your device and attached to the relevant contact. With your permission, the app can also mirror a note into that contact's native Notes field in the iOS Contacts app. We do not upload your contacts or notes to our servers, and we do not build or retain any database of your contacts.
2.3 AI Enhancement (optional, Pro feature)
If — and only if — you choose to enhance a specific note with AI, the app sends the text of that note (never audio, never your contacts) to a third-party AI provider, by way of our backend, to return a cleaned-up version. That AI provider may use the submitted text to train or improve its own models, under its own terms and privacy policy. PeraByte Labs does not store this text or use it for any purpose of our own — our backend only passes it through to the provider and returns the result to your device.
AI Enhancement is optional and is only used when you choose it. A random, app-generated identifier accompanies the request solely to prevent abuse; it is not your name, email, Apple ID, or device identifier, and is not used to track you or build a profile.
2.4 Google Contacts sync (optional, Pro feature)
If you connect a Google account, the app reads and writes contacts in your own Google account via Google's People API so your notes can sync. We do not receive or store your contacts on our servers. Your Google sign-in token is stored securely in the iOS Keychain on your device and can be revoked at any time by disconnecting Google in the app's Settings.
2.5 Camera (optional, Pro — business-card scanner)
If you use the card scanner, the camera and on-device text recognition read a business card into a new contact. Card images are not uploaded.
2.6 Subscriptions
Pro is an optional subscription managed by Apple through the App Store. We receive only your subscription status from Apple to unlock Pro features; all payment is handled by Apple.
3. What We Do NOT Do
- No tracking, no advertising identifiers (IDFA), no third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.
- No selling or sharing of personal data for advertising.
- No server-side copy of your contacts or notes.
4. Who We Share Data With
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only where reasonably necessary to provide a feature you use:

Some of these providers process data outside the EEA (including the United States) under appropriate GDPR safeguards (e.g. Standard Contractual Clauses / the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where applicable).
5. Your Choices & Control
- Grant or revoke Contacts, Microphone, Speech Recognition, and Camera access at any time in iOS Settings.
- Turn AI Enhancement on or off in the app's Settings.
- Disconnect Google in Settings to revoke access and stop sync.
- Delete all your data from within the app: Settings → Delete all my data.
Under the GDPR you also have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection. To exercise them, contact privacy@perabytelabs.com. You may also lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
6. Children
The app is not directed to children and is rated 4+. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
7. Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected here with a new "Last Updated" date.
